Cosmic Earth is operated by Rich and Krista, a husband and wife team that work out of their home in McGaheysville, Virginia. They specialize in fiber crafts and run a stand at their local Harrisonburg Farmers Market on Saturdays year round. It is a fabulous market, and if you are ever in the area you should stop by and check it out.
Some of their handcrafted items include:
- Clothing – mostly Skirts and Dresses
- Dog Gear including Scarves, Leashes, Collars, Couplers and Toys
- Stained Glass
- Tote and Hand Bags
- Cloth Produce Bags
- Knitted Hats, Scarves, Cowls and Neck Gators
- Tie Dyed Bandannas as well as Baby and Children’s Clothes
- Horse Brow Bands
They use a variety of materials including organic hemp/cotton blend fabric that they dye by hand in small batches using professional dyes and processes. They also use unbleached cotton muslin and printed cotton fabric with fun patterns and designs.
Krista has been sewing for about 20 years, and selling her wears for around 15 of those years. Her style and design has evolved greatly since she got her start. She has become more interested in sustainable fabrics and natural earth tones. Krista finds a lot of joy in working with dyes and delights in mixing her own shades in small batches. All of the items Cosmic Earth sells are sewn by Krista in her home, surged, top stitched and finished for a durable life. All fabrics have been washed and tossed in the dryer, and those that are dyed have been through several wash/dry cycles.
Rich specializes in constructing the climbing rope leashes and takes pride in all of the materials he uses being manufactured in the USA. Rich helps Krista in the sewing room and over sees their garden. He also dabbles in stained glass and a little light wood working.
